Buffy and Bimbo help flooded Northland club

Sat 8 Sep 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Auckland's 'Fabulous Makeover Girls' are heading to Northland to raise funds for the embattled Kaeo rugby clubrooms, which were flooded twice this year. Drag duo Buffy and Bimbo will perform to raise funds for the clubrooms to be lifted up, which is estimated to cost $200,000. Bimbo, aka Jonathan Smith, and partner Buffy, aka Kevin Baker, have recently returned from Europe, where they performed in England, Prague and Costa Blanca in Spain. Before they left, they saw the Kaeo Rugby club's story on television and were keen to help. They have performed in Northland in the past - successfully raising money to help a local boy get to Argentina, and for the Kawakawa's new fire station. What was going to be a small show in a community hall has turned into one of the girls' full length shows, and Queenie Aotearoa has now confirmed she will join Buffy and Bimbo on stage. The duo say they are waiving their standard $3,000 fee and are likely to get their travel, lighting and sound requirements sponsored by generous local businesses. ‘ Buffy and Bimbo’s Kaeo Kindness Show’ will be held at 400-seat 'The Centre' in Kerikeri on Saturday 6th October.     Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
