Jelly Wrestling night a first for Imerst

Fri 7 Sep 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Wellington's Imerst nightclub are promising "a night of gelatinous fun" tomorrow, when they hold their first-ever Jelly Wrestling contest. "We've been taking entries for it all week," says Imerst barman Miles Maihi. "We've had people who've come up by themselves, and we've also had people who have come up saying 'We want to fight this person in the ring'!" Miss Drag Wellington winner Ellie Kat will host the evening's slippery proceedings. There is still time to enter the contest, by filling out a form at the bar. Maihi says he's planning to stay behind the bar throughout the contest, but knows there are a few other members of the Imerst staff who want a turn in the jelly pool. The Imerst team at 13 Dixon Street are expecting a large turnout tomorrow when doors open at 10pm. The first Jelly Wrestling contest begins at 11pm, and a $5 cover charge applies for guests entering after Midnight. Jelly Wrestling events are a popular occasional event at Auckland's Family bar - a video clip from their contest back in January is shown below.     Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
