Ellen quizzes Hillary on gay marriage

Wed 5 Sep 2007 In: International News

"I am gay," talk show host Ellen DeGeneres revealed to US Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton during a live TV interview last night. Clinton feigned shock: "What?!" Then DeGeneres followed up with "Why can't I get married?" Clinton replied by saying she was in favour of civil unions, but not full marriage for America's gays and lesbians: “I'm very much in favour of civil unions will full benefits and federal benefits… I consider this an issue where we can agree on benefits. "I've had same position for years but I've always believed marriage should be left to the states." Clinton also took the opportunity to make clear her dislike of the US Military's 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy on gays and lesbians in the armed forces. DeGeneres stopped just short of endorsing Clinton's bid for President later in the show, saying "I like her a lot". Video clips from last night's interview are available to view on the link below.     Ref: Queerty, Ellen (m)
