'Winter Wonderland' at Gay Ski Week

Tue 4 Sep 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

A big dump of snow overnight means Queenstown's ski fields are now a 'Winter Wonderland', says an Australian visitor there for Gay Ski Week. Sean, a Sydney resident, spoke to GayNZ.com from The Remarkables ski field, where snow had been marginal until last night. Sean and his partner arrived in Queenstown just in time for the busy welcome party on Saturday night, and enjoyed Sunday night's cruise aboard the TSS Earnslaw. The couple are staying at the Crowne Plaza base camp, where the 'Pink Bus' to the slopes is "packed full every day" with gay and lesbian skiers from around the globe. The action continues all day today on and off the slopes, as group tours have been arranged for jet-boating, white water rafting, and other adrenaline-rushing adventure sports this afternoon. Gay Ski Week continues until Sunday. Auckland's drag icon Miss Ribena is on her way for tomorrow night's 'Queenstown's Got Talent' karaoke show at SkyCity Alpine casino.
