A full house at last Wednesday's benefit performance of the rock musical RENT in Hamilton saw well over $3,000 raised for the New Zealand AIDS Foundation's Wellness Fund, supporting people living with HIV and AIDS. The Riverlea Theatre and the cast of RENT had donated the evening to NZAF, with tickets being sold exclusively through NZAF's Hamilton centre. AIDS memorial quilts were displayed in the foyer, and local cabaret restaurant Glamz supplied two performers as ushers. “We sold out all 146 seats, and there was a very warm reception from the people who attended,” says Tim Allingham, Regional Manager. “We would like to express our huge appreciation to the cast of RENT, the Riverlea Theatre, and the audience for their generosity, as well as Glamz, Durex, and our Hamilton staff for the work put in for the evening.” $3,336 was received in ticket sales, with a further $74 collected through donations on the night. The proceeds will go to the NZAF Wellness Fund, which provides direct individual care and support for HIV positive people regardless of age, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation.
