The highlight annual event on the Auckland lesbian scene calendar is tonight from 8pm at the Langham Hotel – the 24th Annual Lesbian Ball, with the theme Style through the ages. The Lesbian Ball is an annual event that has grown from small beginnings into one of the premier social occasions on Auckland's Lesbian calendar, say organisers. Each year sees a different theme giving lots of scope for women to indulge their creativity and their fantasies, be they masculine, feminine, or a mixture of both. Recent themes have included Wild Women, Fire and Ice, Silver Screen and 80's Retro. Organised by lesbian support organisation LESO, the Ball is a fundraiser for their coming out support groups and other resources for the local lesbian community. Around 70 rooms at the Langham Hotel are booked each year by women visiting Auckland especially for the event. Tickets are still available for $45 from The Women's Bookshop (105 Ponsonby Rd), or Holiday Shoppe, (293 Ponsonby Rd). There are no door sales. Lesbian Balls also take place each year in Wellington and Christchurch. More details about tonight's Auckland Lesbian Ball are available on the link below. Ref: LESO (m)
