Auckland's Morgan Street Gallery's latest exhibitions include a collection of cliché-busting photoshopped nudes and an exploration of leather art. Artist Siren Deluxe describes her new collection of nude photography as "a celebration of the myriad manifestations of sexuality, gender, and desire." Deluxe has worked in the genre of nude photography for over a decade, but says eroticism is absent from the collection: "The models in 'A Gender' are not porn stars; they are disinterested in pleasing the viewer." The 'two-in-one' images are all created with the aid of Photoshop. "Every image is a trickster," Deluxe explains. "In these portraits, 'opposites' are amalgamated into a new identity. Male and female combine, straight and queer join together, young and old meld and cultures unite. Mainstream marketable fantasies and gender clichés are absent." Trevor Lamb's 'Headcase' exhibition is also featured at the gallery. Lamb is exhibiting six hand-built leather suitcases, each with a different theme…Dominatrix, Leather flowers, Bum with a feather, and other surprises. In addition he is showing four of his fantasy leather helmets and a leather torso. Both exhibitions open tomorrow (Thursday) evening at 5.30pm and run for two weeks at the Morgan Street Gallery in Newmarket. More information about the Gallery is available on the link below.
