A Scissor Sister announces engagement

Tue 31 Jul 2007 In: International News

Openly-gay 'Scissor Sisters ' singer Jake Shears has proposed to his boyfriend Chris and the couple plan to marry in a flamboyant New York ceremony next spring. The outlandish star - who recently bought an apartment in New York with Chris, who he has been dating for eight years - plans to tie the knot with his lover in a "glorious" ceremony next spring. A source said: "Jake and Chris are both blissfully happy with their apartment and the wedding is the next thing. They're ready to show everyone they're together. "A wedding will take their relationship on to the next level. Knowing Jake, it is sure to be fabulous!" Jake, who proposed shortly after buying property which is located in New York's exclusive Tribeca district, has told close friends Kylie Minogue and Geri Halliwell to keep the secret date free. The 28-year-old singer has also asked his bandmates Ana Matronic, BabyDaddy, Del Marquis and Paddy Boom to record a special song for the big day. Jake has chosen a technicolour-themed wedding and plans to wear a striped suit for the ceremony. A flock of doves will be released before and after the nuptials and the venue will be filled with daffodils and tulips. Jake and Chris will officially tie the knot in nearby New Jersey - where same sex marriage is legal - and then travel back to New York to celebrate. The singer recently revealed he wanted a Disney-themed wedding ceremony. Jake said: "I want to have a Disney wedding. There was all this talk about us getting married at the Glastonbury festival, but that was never going to happen. I'm obsessed with Disney and they've just started doing same sex unions."     Ref: Bang! Showbiz (m)
