Gore is "inclusive, receptive and accepting"

Mon 30 Jul 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

The Mayor of the small South Island town of Gore says the local community is "inclusive, receptive and accepting" of all people regardless of their sexuality. Gore Mayor Tracy Hicks spoke to The Southland Times in response to evidence from Statistics New Zealand that despite it's ‘Gay Gore' reputation, the town is one of the least homosexual towns in New Zealand with just three gay couples residing in the area. However, he said the title "Gay Gore" was not applicable to the town. "It's a label that we were given a number of years ago that I don't believe is applicable and is irrelevant."
