Phone book 'gay gym' mistake prints again

Wed 25 Jul 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

A bogus listing describing Ray Parker's Papakura fitness centre as a 'homosexual gym' has been accidentally printed again in a new Auckland phone directory. The Papakura Courier reports that Yellow Pages Group corporate communications manager Wendy Rayman says the free listing in the white pages 'slipped through'. "It was an absolute error on our part that this one actually slipped through because it's a zero rating, because it's a free listing. "It's no excuse; we should have pulled it.” Parker says the ungoing error is “unbelievable”. He's not sure if he will ask for compensation but he says he would like the company to pay for advertising elsewhere to undo some of the damage the bogus listing has caused his business. Following the first “Homosexual Fitness Centre” listing in April, Parker told GayNZ.com his business was not anti-gay. “It's a place where everyone's allowed in, but [being a gay and lesbian gym] is not our sole purpose”.     Ref: Papakura Courier, GayNZ.com (m)
