British gay TV host Michael Barrymore has been named in a new controversy this weekend – “a shocked clubber had to drag a distraught lad of 17 from the troubled star after he tried to force feed him an ecstasy tablet,” the Daily Mirror newspaper reports. At the gay London club ‘Fire' two weeks ago, Gavin Topley, 25, stepped in after the college student told Barrymore: "No, I don't want it! I've had enough." Gavin told the Mirror: "Barrymore was like a man possessed. He couldn't seem to take no for an answer. “He tried to force the tablet into the boy's mouth. Next thing, he was trying to drag him to the toilets. I was furious he could behave in such a way to someone so young. "So I stepped in and physically dragged the lad away from him. It was a horrible moment." Barrymore, 55, was released without charge last month after questioning about the death of a meat factory worker who was found in his swimming pool six years ago. This latest controversy will horrify the star's friends who fear he is sinking into depression following the new investigation. Barrymore moved to New Zealand to escape the controversy with his Kiwi partner Shaun Davis – but the couple split earlier this year. Davis, 31, recently told the UK's ‘People' newspaper of his worry for his former lover. “While we lived together in Auckland life was simple and he had no pressures,” he explained. "He stayed off the booze but coming back to England and then being arrested has set him off on a trail of self destruction again. He continued: "This new investigation could tip him over the edge for good. With the stress of possible criminal charges hanging over Michael I really fear he will slip into drink and drugs again. "If he goes down that road he'll end up killing himself, I'm sure of it." Ref: The Mirror, The People (m)
