NZAF's Hau Ora Takatâpui team is holding a community gathering in South Auckland on Friday 27th July to explore the possibility of starting a support group for takatâpui tane in the region. “We know that social networks which include friends and family may exist, but we don't know if they are as understanding and accepting as they say they are,” says Hau Ora Takatâpui Team Leader Eriata Peri. “Are they the most comfortable space to discuss issues of sexuality, relationships, discrimination, and HIV/AIDS?” “Acknowledgement must be given to Te Aronga Hou Inaianei who, over the years, have done their best to provide for this community,” Peri continues. “Is it time though for takatâpui tane to provide a service for themselves?” As well as discussing the support group issue, an update on HIV/AIDS for the year to date will be provided, information on NZAF's new rapid HIV testing service, and an open forum discussion on the importance of identity for takatâpui tane and Maori men who have sex with men. The meeting will be held at Friendship House, Manukau on Friday 27th July from 6 till 10pm. A meal will be held following the meeting. Registration is required for attendance, as numbers are limited. Please contact Eriata Peri at NZAF's National Office on (09) 303-3124 if you are interested in attending. Ref: NZAF (m)
