The man behind much-missed Ponsonby Road gay bar ‘Surrender Dorothy's' has announced a new LGBT venue will open on the Auckland strip in a few weeks – ‘Dorothy's Sister'. “After the demise of Surrender Dorothy eighteen months ago, I wanted to take the opportunity to again lavish fabulosity on Ponsonby Road,” says Peter A. Taylor. The opening party for the ‘Neighbourhood café and bar' situated at the ‘3 Lamps' Northern end of the road, begins at 7pm on Wednesday 8th August, “for a glass of wine and a look.” “It's official with all the papers signed,” Taylor reveals. “I take over the premises on Monday coming and after a two-week makeover will plan to open to the public on Thursday August the 9th at 9.30am.” Taylor says he's looking forward to going back to work in an industry where he has extensive skills. “A wonderful team of key people will model the ethos and culture I started at Dorothy's, where it's not too loud so you can chat, the music is chill lounge and it's safe for women. “Again it will be like coming to my lounge room to have a drink with us.” Continuing the theatrical décor and madness of his time at Surrender Dorothy's, Taylor confirms: “I will cross dress!” Dorothy's Sister A Neighbourhood café and bar A local for the locals Café, open 7 days from 9.30am.
