Rainbow Youth

Thu 12 Jul 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Auckland-based LGBT organisation Rainbow Youth is holding it's 2007 Annual General Meeting later this month, and warmly invite all interested people to attend. The AGM presents an opportunity for queer youth to get involved in volunteering, says Youth Co-ordinator Robert Marshall. “There is also a strong culture of volunteering within Rainbow Youth and many of the young people who come to us for support often become volunteers. This benefits the organisation enormously as it enables us to achieve much larger goals than our limited staff and budget would otherwise allow. "However, perhaps the young volunteers themselves experience the largest benefit, their roles within the organisation help them to develop confidence and skills that aid them on whatever path they choose in life,” explains Marshall. “Their responsibilities as volunteers also keep them strongly connected to a supportive and healthy community.” The AGM has two primary purposes, firstly to ratify and discuss any proposed changes to the Rainbow Youth Constitution, Marshall explains, and secondly, to elect a new Executive Board. Rainbow Youth's Chairperson, Treasurer, Youth Co-ordinator and Educational Officer will report, and then the current Rainbow Youth Board will stand down. “We will hear from the new nominees and the old officers will briefly outline their roles. The members then vote and the results get announced.” Rainbow Youth's 2007 Annual General Meeting will be held in the Rainbow Youth Centre, 281 Karangahape Road, Auckland, at 3pm on Saturday 28th July.     Ref: Rainbow Youth (m)
