An exciting Team New Zealand victory in an America's Cup race last week saw our Kiwi yachting boss Grant Dalton make a comment he might now regret. Encouraging his team to remain calm and composed as they crossed the finish line, Dalton advised his crew: "No man love". The tongue-in-cheek instruction was overheard by TV microphones and mentioned in numerous TV, radio and print news reports since. “I thought it was most odd, and somewhat homophobic,” said an entry on GayNZ.com's message board the following day. Now, a satirical website – http://www.nomanlove.co.nz/ – has been set up, featuring a ‘No Man Love' song and mock Bulletin Board with “NO Hugging, NO Kissing, NO Touching” rules. Comments on the ‘nomanlove' guestbook feature were mostly in support of Team New Zealand's fight for the America's Cup. One entry said the ‘No man love' rule was “such a shame really, that's half the fun of watching them. All the hugging and kissing afterwards – it's the only time you get to see men melting en-mass in public.” Another advised the crew: “Bring home the cup and bring on MAN LURRRVE when we win!” Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
