Plea to Wellingtonians:

Fri 22 Jun 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Management of Wellington LGBT venue ‘Our Bar' have admitted the place is struggling to stay open, and are urging local gays and lesbians to support the business in the winter months. Co-manager Sharon Boyd is putting on a brave face, telling GayNZ.com: “We are struggling, but we're still here. We're still open. “It's tight, but we're still hanging in there. My daughter and I are working our butts off, basically, with eighteen-hour days.” Boyd says the lounge-style bar has been a popular addition to Cuba Street, especially with lesbians, since it opened in October last year. “But since the winter started, we've had a fall in numbers and it's really hurt us.” A ‘Save Our Bar' party is planned for tomorrow (Saturday) night, starting at 7.30pm. Cocktail specials and a guest DJ are arranged. “We're hoping like hell we can get a lot of people in – and that we can save the bar. We love the place. And we've got quite a few people who are upset because they love the place too.”     Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
