“Keep the week of 4th – 11th August free,” says the UniQ Victoria team, who have announced their second annual LGBT ‘Proud’ week for that date. Laressa Donaldson, president of UniQ Victoria, says people can expect an action-packed week. "Last year's Proud was a great success and we hope to build on that this year and develop it even further." The ‘Queer Ball’, which premiered last October, is again opening the week this year. Other events include queer-orientated workshops; a youth (under 18) focused event, a ‘parents of queers’ wine and cheese evening and sporting events, including bowling and pool. “We're also launching a queer short film festival," Laressa adds. “This will be a great way to showcase kiwi queer talent, and so we're looking for submissions for this. "Another idea we've had is for an anti-homophobia street postering campaign, however that's looking a little costly so we're also looking for some funding for that." The week will be closed with iconic Wellington drag troupe The Glamazons' – Natasha Crowe, La Toya JackSin, Ellie Kat and Victoria – throwing a Pyjama Party which they say will be “a huge night featuring an AV spectacular show”.
