GABA Trust distributes $15,500 fund

Thu 7 Jun 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Six LGBT groups left yesterday evening's Gay Auckland Business Association Fruits in Suits meeting with cheques for much-needed funds, as the GABA Trust dispensed its money for worthy local projects. Gayline/Lesbianline got $7,000 to use in its centre in Downtown Auckland. New couches, DVD’s, board games and other activities will be purchased for Gayline’s social events for its many volunteers, said manager Neil Denney. Leona Morris from the Auckland’s Womens’ Centre accepted $1,000 for new books, and Bain Divine from Body Positive accepted $1,158 to help with printing information and support pamphlets for HIV positive people. $2,000 went to Rainbow Youth, for production of a teacher's resource, to assist New Zealand Secondary School teachers with student’s issues about same-sex attraction. The Charlotte Museum Trust received $3,000, for help with the preservation and display of over 700 historical lesbian artefacts, such as Labyrs, paintings, ceramics, glass, and badge collections. Finally, Lisa Williams got $245 to purchase videotapes for her documentary film-making about local older lesbians. GABA’s Annual General Meeting is planned for 6pm Wednesday 4th July, in their regular venue of the Aucklander Bar in the Rendezvous Hotel. It will be the last meeting there in the Aucklander venue, as the hotel is under new management, and the last with Johnny Givens as President, who is stepping down but says he still plans to stay actively involved in GABA.     Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
