The team at Imerst nightclub say they're “well and truly prepared” for their inaugural Miss Drag Wellington Competition this Saturday evening. The team at the central Wellington LGBT venue say they're sure the competition will be “even bigger” than their successful Mr Gay Wellington event last month. “We have new resident DJ Gus playing in the main room till late with Wellington drag icon ‘Lady Trenyce' hosting the evening's festivities,” they say. The celebrity judging panel is made up of Auckland drag icon Miss Ribena, A.J. Marsh – Mr Gay Wellington 2007, Alicia Kendall - a nationally recognised dance choreographer and Sarah Lee Russell – 2006 Makeup artist of the year. “There are four sections for the contestants to show the audience why they should be crowned Miss Drag Wellington, these being a 'talent' section, formal wear, open wear, and one new special section - swimwear,” say the team. “In addition to the title, Miss Drag will receive a massive amount of prizes such as cash, Pearl hair design vouchers, The Lanes vouchers, Bar Tabs, make-up vouchers, Wildpair shoe vouchers, duty-free product, and much more. “There are nine Queens entering this year so it's sure to be a great competition with entrance such as Sasha Frieze, Rhubarb Rouge, Nalia Star, Ellie Kat, Mindy Meatflaps, Tinker Witherbox, Cherry Blossom, Holly Gram and Felicity Froccino.” Other events at Imerst include tonight's Out Takes Film Festival after party, and Tuesday openings for ‘2 for 1' drink specials throughout June. Saturday nights continue to be the busiest nights at the venue. Last Saturday's events were unexpectedly hotter than usual though, say the team: “We all had to exit the dance floor at 2.30am. We were paid a visit from the local fire department, so things only got hotter… thanks to whoever turned on the fire alarm for a nice treat!” Miss Drag Wellington begins at 10pm this Saturday 2nd of June at Imerst, 13 Dixon Street, Wellington.
