Management at Hamilton LGBT venue the Next Door Bar have announced a month of special events to celebrate it's re-opening. “Magenta Gala, Totally Women, Slave Auction and Total Klunt are just some of the fresh exciting events coming up in June,” says Next Door's marketing consultant Amanda Miller. After seven months closed, Hamilton City Council gave Next Door the go-ahead to reopen on Friday 18th May. The opening weekend was quiet, perhaps due to the short notice, says Next Door's Mark Richardson. “Several popped their heads in, but none stayed long. Still, the word is out now, and we're hoping this weekend will be somewhat better attended.” New events begin with a Magenta Gala on Saturday 2nd June. “The night will be filled with celebration, winning wheel giveaways, performance and laughter,” says Amanda Miller. "If you have been a regular party person at Next Door or never been there, the Magenta Gala is a fabulous introduction to what we have in store for June and the coming months. "We want to keep a bit of the 'old school' but incorporate fresh new ideas, hence Totally Women, Slave Auction and Wild, Wild West themed nights, not to mention our new 'Liquor Licence' cards and High Tea Sunday," she continues. "The space at the Next Door Bar is fantastic, for starters it is a safe place to be, there is plenty of room for performance, dancing, and not to forget the great garden and free parking." Owner Clive Brooker says the ball can now start rolling on the planned refurbishments. "For now Next Door has undergone a few changes, but by the end of the year it will be unrecognisable with serious alterations planned, but these will not interfere with our normal trading hours of 10pm to 3am, Friday and Saturday nights," said Brooker.
