GABA President to step down at AGM

Wed 23 May 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Gay Auckland Business Association President Johnny Givens has revealed that he will not stand for President again at the GABA Annual General Meeting this July. “I just think it's time for someone else to take on the Presidency. Give room for new people and a new direction,” says Givens. Givens' two-year tenure as GABA President has seen increased numbers of businesses and individuals joining the organisation, a new upmarket venue at the Rendezvous Hotel for monthly ‘Fruits and Suits' gatherings, special events including dinners with Prime Minister Helen Clark and Georgina Beyer, and tens of thousands of dollars of GABA money going towards the Auckland and national LGBT community through the GABA Trust. “I've told the Executive and it's in the minutes,” Givens says of his decision. “I won't stand again as President, but I'll still be on the committee to help,” he reassures.     Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
