Gay AKL'er denies Dallow email scandal

Sun 29 Apr 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

The gay Aucklander accused of improperly using other people's email accounts in an attempt to fuel speculation about his role in television newsreader Simon Dallow's private life says “none of the story is true”. Former Viva FM fashion commentator Robert Haddock, 26, says his phone has been ‘inundated' with people contacting him about the story in this morning's ‘Herald on Sunday'. The newspaper had seen two emails sent to several individuals and media organisations concerning Dallow – one from the email account of a couple who share their home with Haddock, and one from Haddock's former co-worker. A TVNZ spokesman said the broadcaster would be taking legal action if the person responsible continued making ‘defamatory remarks' about its newsreader. Haddock worked last year as a freelance fashion reporter for Viva FM, speaking to Dallow regularly on the live nine-till-noon show. “None of that story is true,” Haddock now tells GayNZ.com. “They [the Herald] just want to make some story out of nothing. It's pathetic. “I had a guy with a camera follow me around on Friday. Then someone from the Herald emailed me a photo they got of me in Ponsonby saying: ‘Do you like this one, or should we use an archive photo of you?' I just thought he was being stupid. “I spoke to Simon [Dallow] yesterday afternoon and he's fine with me.” Haddock's misadventures have been regular newspaper gossip column filler for several months. Last October Bridget Saunders wrote a lengthy piece for the Sunday Star-Times detailing Haddock's history of fraudulent ATM and credit card use and his dreams of being a TV newsreader.
