Gay and Lesbian Singers launch their 1st CD

Fri 27 Apr 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

After four years of recording songs from various concerts, Auckland's Gay and Lesbian Singers are launching their first CD this month. “It is called, albeit tongue in cheek, ‘GALS Greatest Hits', a title pretty much justified when you consider that it is the best of four years of GALS concerts,” says GALS Chairperson Jan Suckling. The songs featured on the 70-minute CD are a mix of studio and concert recordings – the studio being Auckland's Pitt Street Methodist Church. GALS is a gay and lesbian community choir based in Auckland. They have been going since 1992 and hold two series of concerts per year, usually in June and October. "Although GALS has been going as long as other Australasian choirs, we have been the last to produce a CD. We are extremely proud of the vocal standard we have achieved,” says Suckling. “The songs demonstrate GALS' strength in many genres, from musical to folk to oratorio - you have never heard the Hallelujah Chorus sung like this before." GALS CDs are available from the choir or from the Women's Bookshop at 105 Ponsonby Road, for $25. Email: greatesthits@gals.org.nz or get more information on GALS at the link below.     Ref: GALS (m)
