'Wigarama' returns for worthy cause

Tue 17 Apr 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Last year's Wigarama drag cabaret event raised over $3,400 for charity, so Auckland's favourite trannies are doing it all again. K' Road's Family bar owner Wayne Clark says the turnout for last year's Wigarama was a surprise. "We'd never seen the place so packed at 7 O'Clock. People just loved the shows," he says. The event was hastily organised after the annual Wigs on the Waterfront show was called off twice due to rain. The date for this year's Wigorama is set for Tuesday 24 April – Anzac Eve – and with Family having to close at midnight due to the public holiday liquor licence laws, hostess for the evening Miss Ribena advises us, "The shows will be from 7.30pm, with the gold coin entry from 6pm. "With over forty entertainers scheduled to perform on the evening, it's sure to be a fast-moving extravaganza!" Wigarama 2007, at Family bar (270 K' Road) is again a fundraiser for The Cartier Bereavement Charitable Trust, which assists with funeral costs for those who have passed away from HIV/AIDS related illnesses.     Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
