Easter plans at NZ

Thu 5 Apr 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Some of New Zealand's LGBT nightclubs are closing through the Easter period, but others are only shut on Good Friday and Easter Sunday – with big plans for the rest of the Easter break. In Auckland, a special one-off ‘Seduction' dance party will start at 10pm on Easter Saturday night. Bacio at 390 K' Road is one of the few venues allowed to stay open after midnight on Saturday, so Seduction's organisers are expecting a large turn-out. DJ's Donald Bennett and Marty promise a night of funky, sexy, groovy house. Auckland's Family bar will open at Midnight as Good Friday becomes Easter Saturday morning. Then it'll be retro hits, with the pool table and juke box available until doors close at Midnight on Saturday. As Sunday becomes Easter Monday at Midnight, Family opens again with a ‘Bunny Girls' show at 1am, plus appearances by Miss Ribena, Buckwheat, Cindy of Samoa and Linda Vandike, plus all-male strip shows. Urge on Auckland's K' Road opens at Midnight as Easter Sunday becomes Easter Monday, with one of their ever-popular ‘Underware' parties. In Hamilton, Venom has a number of parties planned for the Easter break. Tonight is a ‘Black Party' – wear black – until Midnight. Doors open again at Midnight as Friday becomes Saturday, with an underwear and PJ's party until 3am. Saturday hours are Midday until Midnight, then Venom's closed all Sunday. Midnight on Monday morning will be the start of a ‘Single and Searching' party, then there's a ‘White Party' – wear white – on Monday night until 3am. Club Mystic in Palmerston North is closed over Easter – their next big event is an 80's Dance Night with guest DJ Mr Gay Manawatu on Saturday 14th April. Our Bar in Wellington is also closed this weekend, and will reopen on Tuesday afternoon. An elaborate ‘White Party' is planned for next Saturday. Wellington's Imerst Easter events begin at Midnight as Good Friday becomes Easter Saturday, with Easter Egg giveaways and drink specials – plus a 2am show featuring Mia Slapper and Dawn Breaker. Saturday night from 10pm is a karaoke competition hosting by Lady Trenyce. ‘Mr Gay Wellington', traditionally held at Easter, is now planned for next Saturday 14th April at Imerst. Christchurch's Cruz bar is open as usual all Easter, and brings you the launch party for the NZ AIDS Foundation's ‘Safe Sex Text' service from 9pm on Easter Saturday. Drag divas Beaver Brown and Miss Kola from Auckland's Caluzzi Caberet will join ChCh's very own Miss Cindy on stage for the special show, and guests at the party will receive safe sex packs, and will be able to enter a text competition to win spot prizes.
