‘GAP', Wellington's rainbow network organisation is planning this year's Annual General Meeting and is keen to hear from new people willing to join their Board. GAP support Wellington's LGBT communities by donating money to worthy groups, organising social networking events, acting as a ‘watchdog' for queer issues locally and around the world, and keeping a database of local LGBT or gay-friendly businesses. The 2007 AGM will take place at 6pm on Thursday, 17th May, which is the International Day against Homophobia. Mayor of Wellington Kerry Prendergast - the Patron of GAP - will host it in the Council Chambers in the Town Hall. “It has become clearer that several of the current Board members will not be seeking re-election,” says GAP Secretary Tony Reed. “This means the danger of smaller Board which will inevitably be able to achieve less. We therefore really need new blood, so please consider whether you can contribute to GAP's continuing success by putting your name forward.” Women are particularly encouraged to get involved. “We currently have no women members standing or restanding. That means that we are in danger of having an all-male Board for 2007-8, a new situation we really do not want,” continues Reed. The current Board will be putting forward a motion at the AGM to change the name of GAP to ‘Rainbow Wellington'. GAP holds it's next Rainbow Networking drinks tomorrow evening from 5pm at Jimmy's Bar in the St. James Theatre on Courtenay Place. A cash bar will operate, finger food is provided and bookings aren't required. To contact GAP, email Tony Reed on info@gap.org.nz, or see their website on the link below.     Ref: GAP, GayNZ.com (m)
