Live gay music TV to

Wed 28 Mar 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Alternative music channel ‘Alt TV' say they're boldly taking music television to a new level with the launch of New Zealand's first live gay music show on the 1st of April. Hosted by Steven Oates, 'Sparkle on Sunday' promises to be a live forum of interviews, stories, gossip and the hottest music around, tailored to the queer community. Alt TV programmer Martin “Bomber” Bradbury said the station had been keen to launch a gay show for some time, but hadn't been able to put the right team together. “Steven Oates was the obvious choice. I had worked with him in the past, and knew he would be perfect for the role. Steven has the energy and experience to make ‘Sparkle On Sunday' essential viewing on Sunday nights.” Oates has worked in NZ media for the past decade. He hosted the popular radio show “Round the Bend” on 95bFM, worked as a researcher and presenter on Queer Nation and was last on the small screen as part of the reporting team for weekly arts show Frontseat. He's also due to start working as a researcher and director on TV2's new LGBT programme ‘The Outlook', launching later this autumn. “I love the immediacy and unpredictability that live TV offers”, says Oates. “I'm planning to have fun, but also keep the issues that affect our community on the agenda.” Sparkle On Sunday will begin at 10pm, Sunday 1st April on Alt TV – on Sky channel 65, or VHF frequency 62 in Auckland.       Ref: Alt TV, GayNZ.com (m)
