Five decades of Christchurch's LGBT culture will be candidly explored in a new documentary currently in production – and locals are invited to participate. ‘Through Rainbow-Coloured Glasses' is described by co-producer Toni Keevil as a “hard-hitting, deeply honest, embracing and at time hysterical glimpse of the scope of human struggle and celebration that encapsulates how a community is defined and ultimately defines itself.” The documentary-makers at ‘Big Girls Blouse' productions will capture oral histories of the movers and shakers over the last half-century, re-enact key moments in the Christchurch Queer History, and look at its identities. The documentary is intended to become available for education use as well as general exhibition. The producers are currently looking for people to tall their stories, provide goods and services, and donate money. ‘Pink Health Otautahi' in association with Production Company ‘Big Girls Blouse' is hosting a fundraising night on Friday 30th March to help with the completion of the documentary. “We are inviting the Christchurch GLBTI Community to come along and view the teaser, meet and chat, listen to personalities from the Christchurch community and hopefully pledge and make donations so the we can see this project through to completion,” says South Island health promoter Brent Mitchell. “The cost of the project is in excess of $50,000. We have been making submissions to various funding agencies, but we also need a reasonable amount of money from within the Rainbow Community both in and out of Christchurch.” Pink Health Otautahi has been in existence for almost a decade, and is made up of GLBTI people who work in the health sector. The fundraising event will also be the launch of the ‘Pink Pages Directory for 2007-8', which lists health agencies, support networks, education providers, social venues/groups, and some businesses and services including councillors. ‘Through Rainbow-Coloured Glasses' fundraiser, From 7pm, Friday 30th march 2007 At Arches Cafe and Bar, Cnr Hereford Street and Latimer Square, Christchurch The event includes nibbles and special guests.
