Takataapui TV talks Hero history

Wed 14 Mar 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

The first episode of the Maori Channel's ‘Takataapui' GLBT TV programme's fifth season was broadcast last night at 10.30pm, and featured a new host, a new regular feature, and a brief history of Auckland's Hero festival. Former Hero Festival organiser Bruce Kilmister, GayNZ.com's content manager Jay Bennie, current Hero Party organiser Michael Modrich and current Hero trustee Michael Bancroft were all interviewed in an item exploring the history of the Hero Parade and Party. New host Levi Barstow introduced himself in a segment also featuring his family and home life, broadcast in Maori. Later, the premiere of new ‘real people's views' segment ‘Taka-cam' showed attendees of this year's ‘Big Gay Out' – including Auckland Mayor Dick Hubbard. Next Tuesday's episode will feature international award-winning hairdresser and avante-garde star Derek Elvy's story, placing the ordinary side of his life next to high art hair fashion.     Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
