Nestle's “that's not cool' Milo TV advertisement has received official complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority from concerned viewers saying the ad is homophobic. The ad, still playing on nationwide free-to-air television this week, shows a teenage touch rugby player scoring a try, and getting kissed by a girl. When a guy kisses him, the voice-over says, “That's not cool”. Hillary Souter, Executive Director of the Advertising Standards Authority, says the Authority has received complaints about the ad. “The complaints have been accepted to go before the board. We're just waiting for responses from the various parties.” Rainbow Youth's Youth Co-coordinator Rob Marshall says its understandable there have been official complaints, and worries the ad would have a detrimental effect on same-sex attracted young people. “It's quite concerning. We were definitely thinking of putting a compliant in ourselves about it.” Calls and emails to Nestle's New Zealand office from concerned viewers and GayNZ.com get a “no comment” response from the customer services manager.
