USA: Lesbians sue over lost embryos

Fri 9 Mar 2007 In: International News

A lesbian couple are suing a Manhattan sperm and embryo bank, alleging that it lost six of their embryos. The New York Daily News reports that the suit against Repro Lab by Adriana Pacheco and Cathy Berger was filed in the Manhattan Supreme Court, with the couple seeking at least $3 million in damages. Berger signed an embryo storage agreement with the company in May 2003 that required them to release the embryos at her request. When the couple requested to retrieve them in May 2006 for a frozen embryo transfer cycle, Berger was informed that they "were missing, could not be found and had been lost," according to the lawsuit. "Repro Lab should have dealt with the embryos with the greatest of care," Susan Dennehy, a lawyer for the couple, told the Daily News. "It's a sacred trust." According to the article, the couple have children but would not state how many.     Ref: The Advocate (m)
