Sunny days predicted for Heroic Gardens

Fri 16 Feb 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

The eleventh annual Heroic Gardens Festival takes place this weekend, and the MetService is predicting it'll be fine and sunny both days. Organiser Shane Neal says there are 22 exciting gardens on show this year, with four brand new ones introduced. “Heroic Gardens is a great event for both the garden visitors and garden owners and it has grown over the years into far more than just a bunch of gardens,” says Neal. “Now there are drag shows, cafes to sit, eat and drink in, plus plants, art and sculpture for sale. And, of course, central to its success is the opportunity for visitors to talk to the owners, and many of those owners say that the feedback is what makes it all worthwhile.” Over the last ten years Heroic Gardens have given over $375,000 to the Auckland City Mission's Herne Bay House. Herne Bay House has since closed, so this year the funds are being directed to the Burnett Centre Wellwess Fund, which provides direct individual care and support for all those living with HIV in Auckland, irrespective of age, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation. Heroic Gardens 2007 will be held this weekend, from 10am till 6pm, 17-18 February. Tickets are $30 each and are valid for both days. Purchase them from Kings Plant Barns, Palmers Garden Centres, Tippett Nurseries, Sunhill Garden Centre, Time Out Books, Women's Bookshop, Unity Books, Hair Mechanics or Kumeu Garden Centre.
