Fine Wine, Food and Film in the Vines

Wed 7 Feb 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

An enjoyable evening is planned for Saturday 10 February 2007 at Coopers Creek Vineyard in West Auckland, incorporating award-winning wines from their cellar, a gourmet platter of food, and the screening of the movie ‘De-lovely'. This popular event is part of the 2007 HERO Festival, with tickets in very much in demand both nationally and to date from Germany and Australia, says event organiser Wayne Nicholas. De-Lovely is an original musical portrait of the American composer Cole Porter filled with his unforgettable songs performed by today's artists including Alana Morrissette, Robbie Williams, Elvis Costello and Sheryl Crow to name a few. The evening is a fundraiser for The Cartier Bereavement Charitable Trust. ''One can imagine the late Drag Artist Courtney Cartier who the Trust was formed in memory of, performing some of the Cole Porter songs in her exorbitant manner'' says Nicholas. In the film, Porter - played by Kevin Kline - is looking back on his life as if it was one of his spectacular stage shows. Porter's elegant and excessive past comes to light- including his deeply complicated relationship with his wife and muse Linda Lee Porter, played by Ashley Judd, and his liaisons with lover Gabe, played by Jonathan Pryce. The ‘Film in the Vines' evening starts from 5pm for dining and entertainment with the movie screens at dusk. There is a general admission price of $15 for anyone who wish to bring their own picnic tea, blankets and seating. For patrons who pre-order a gourmet platter at $40 per couple, there is reserved seating. Coopers Creek Vineyard is located on Highway 16 Huapai, just north of Kumeu, West of Auckland. This popular evening sells out well in advance with the demand in bookings in excess of the venue capacity. Bookings are through Coopers Creek on 09 412 8560, email jason@cooperscreek.co.nz or wayne.wains@clear.net.nz.     Ref: Cartier Bereavement Charitable Trust (m)
