Downtown Auckland's “Pink Dollar' nightclub is closed for business - only a month after it opened. The GLBT venue at 17a Albert Street had a busy and elaborate opening night on Friday 15th December, but struggled to attract customers since, despite special guest performers, competitions and drink specials. Entertainment coordinator Ramon Te Waake says she stopped working at the club a couple of weeks ago. “Pink Dollar was my summer fling,” she explains. “I always knew that returning back to TV would be my priority. So I left for that reason. “The three months I was hired as entertainment coordinator were really exciting, as it gave me an opportunity to be part of a diverse and fabulous team of performers. We had Annie Crummer perform, along with divas from all over the city and South Auckland. It was a real pleasure to give them a platform to perform on. “It was a challenge, but the challenge made me enjoy the job.” Venue owner Corry Maaka could not be reached for comment, but it's understood club management will rebrand 17a Albert Street as a straight ‘R'n'B venue. An alternative venue will be found for the HERO Festival's ‘Post Pink Launch Pink Party' on the 2nd of February.     Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
