Countdown to Chch Pride Week begins

Sat 20 Jan 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Christchurch's popular Pride Week will be on again this May, with organiser Brent Mitchell saying, "the Big countdown has begun, four months to go!" Mitchell is keen to hear from groups who would like to participate with activities. "Remember Pride week is for the entire Rainbow Community (GLBTI) and of course anything gay friendly." Christchurch Pride Week will be seeking sponsorship to help cover costs for publicity, "so if any businesses or agencies are keen to be involved then please get in touch," says Mitchell. "Also, any feedback on how we can make Christchurch Pride week better are most welcome." Mitchell's aim is to have all the Pride Week activities sorted by the end of March so that the official brochures can be produced in time for Easter. The 2007 event will be the third annual Pride Week. Despite it being completely ignored by the mainstream media, last year's Christchurch Pride Week was a huge success, raising $3,500 which was then pumped into local LGBT community groups and a local hospice.
