Buffy and Bimbo

Wed 17 Jan 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

TVOne's new property buying programme starts tomorrow evening, and features some familiar faces. The locally-made reality documentary series follows 13 home buyers and sellers as, with the help of three experts, they learn how to succeed in real estate. Kevin Baker and Jonathan Smith – also known as glamorous girls Buffy and Bimbo – appear on the show as they go about buying a new home after returning to New Zealand from living in Spain. The couple wanted an apartment seen as a risky purchase amidst the leaky building problem and falling values of many inner city developments. Smith says he and Baker auditioned for the documentary when they first got back from Europe last year. “We were accepted and then we worked on it for almost 3 months – it was very demanding. But it was so funny at times and as we were getting Buffy and Bimbo's Cancelled World Tour ready it also focuses on the 'girls' - I understand that it has a very ineresting ending - I am told but my lips are sealed,” he teases. Smith thinks it was a real statement that Greenstone Pictures and TVNZ agreed to have a gay couple and drag queens on a programme that is family viewing during prime time TV. “We have not seen the edited copy, so it will be just as much of a surprise to us as it will be to the viewing public. As you can imagine we are a little bit apprehensive!” The four-part series begins on TVOne tomorrow night (Thursday 18 January) at 9.25pm.     Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
