Takatapui TV:

Tue 16 Jan 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Maori Television's Takatapui programme will return for a fifth season on 6 March 2007 – and are looking for a new male presenter to join the team. Takatapui director, presenter and researcher Ramon Te Wake says she's “way excited” about the new series. Big plans for this year's episodes include “an up close and personal look at Takataaapui as they go through their challenges and struggles. “We want to capture the real emotion and be there while it's happening, as opposed to general images and then an interview in their back yard somewhere. This time we're in the action.” The search is officially on for an enthusiastic new presenter to join the team, Te Wake reveals. “Taane Mete was our previous presenter and he has since moved on.” The new male presenter would work alongside Te Wake and fellow presenter Tania Simon. “We're looking for someone fluent in Te Reo, with experience on-screen, a keen understanding of broadcast journalism, considerable knowledge of Takatapui issues and a strong network within the community.” The programme makers are also looking for Takatâpui who are out in their communities to take part in ‘Taka-cam', a new viewer video initiative for series five. “We're seeking people from all over the country and abroad to record on video, an upbeat profile of themselves and their interaction with their local community,” Te Wake explains. “The aim of this segment is to reflect the diverse, complex and inspiring people that make up the gay, lesbian and transgender population of New Zealand, by putting the storytelling tools in the hands of the viewers.” Te Wake knows “we have so many untouched stories all over the country and this year, it is our mission to try to uncover them – with your help of course. So get filming and have fun!” The programme's researchers also want to hear from Takatapui who are planning events such as Civil Unions, gay clubs, sports events, or other community events.
