Hamilton

Fri 1 Dec 2006 In: New Zealand Daily News

Hamilton's GLBT nightclub the Next Door Bar is still closed, and owner Clive Brocker has now been told by council inspectors that he can't enter the 'structurally unsound' building. The Next Door Bar and adjoining 10 High sex-on-site venue both closed their doors suddenly on Thursday 19 October, with Brocker saying at the time the closure was only temporary. He now says the situation is "an absolute blighter". Council inspectors initially asked for emergency lighting to be fitted on a stairwell to improve fire safety in the bar, but Brocker has since been told there are issues with the building's integrity. "We're not allowed in the building to fix anything. It's a 'wait and see' situation." Brocker can reveal that the sex-on-site venue 10 High won't be returning when the building is reopened. "We're taking the opportunity to do something else – it'll be quite unique," he asserts. Meanwhile, Hamilton's dinner and cabaret venue Glamz! is open for drinks and campness, and Guyz Sauna and Spa on Victoria Street is open for men to meet for sex.     Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
