Ladyfest hits Wellington in December

Wed 22 Nov 2006 In: New Zealand Daily News

A not-for-profit music festival by women and for women is coming to Wellington on the weekend of 1st - 3rd December. Ladyfest, a popular event with straight, lesbian, and bi girls alike when first held in Auckland in 2003, is an opportunity to showcase musical women in an often disproportionately male-dominated arts scene. Stage and band manager Jana W, one of four organisers of this year's event, has been on the ‘Ladyfest Collective' for over a year. “There have been hundreds of Ladyfests all around the globe,” she explains. “The first one being in Washington D.C.. It's up to the ladies, wherever they are, to organise one in their own hometowns, using the universal name Ladyfest.” Jana can now reveal the Ladyfest band line-up, with performers coming from around New Zealand to be part of the festival. Bands appearing include: Peneloping, Holiday With Friends, Thee Strap-Ons, The Real Hot Bitches, Sarah Dougher (USA), Charlie Ash, Chopper Poodles in Zombie Town, Too Many She-Jays, The Wrongdoings, The Windups, Psychic Frequencies (AKL), Chris Mystery    Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
