The Cartier Bereavement Charitable Trust will receive over $3,000 thanks to an amazing night of generosity by customers of Auckland's Urge Bar. The money was raised thanks to the first ever ‘Slave Auction' at the K' Road bar. A diverse range of ‘slaves' and lots were on offer including a car mechanic, two masseurs, a houseboy and a date with Mr. Southern HiBearnation. A total of 18 prizes were up for grabs and the packed crowd threw themselves into the bidding process with aplomb. Urge co-owner Alan Granville said he was taken aback by the amount of money raised. “We had hoped for a decent $1000 on the night, but $3000 was way off the radar. “I can't thank the Urge customers enough in helping to raise such a large sum of money for such a worthwhile charity. “I also want to thank all the slaves and prize sponsors for all their work, the Urge staff, our indomitable compare Alan Olson and Damien and Shane for coming up with the idea in the first place.” The Cartier Bereavement Charitable Trust is the organisation that funds funerals for people who die of AIDS-related illnesses. Urge is holding the monthly bear's night this Friday, which will also act as a leaving do for Melbourne-bound Alan Olson, so show your support for one of Auckland's true characters.
