Auctioning slaves at Urge Bar

Tue 31 Oct 2006 In: New Zealand Daily News

Auckland's Urge Bar on K' Road is trying something new for charity this weekend – the chance for patrons to win their own personal slave. “We haven't done this before – it was actually one of our patrons' idea,” says co-owner Paul Heard. “It's a slave auction in a sense that you're buying someone with a service or prize. Rather than a Roman-style slave auction where you get the body!” Paul says they have eight willing slaves so far, and are hoping to end up with more. Slaves come with many and varied skills and prizes. A sexy mechanic could tune up your car, a DJ could spin discs for you and your friends, you could be massaged by a hot leather bear, or enjoy dinner for four at a local mansion. Paul says a popular slave will be ‘Mr Hibearnation' Damian, who could be your dinner date. Money raised goes to the Cartier Bereavement Charitable Trust, the organisation that funds funerals for people who die of AIDS-related illness. Urge is looking for a more people with talents and prizes willing to become slaves. Email urgebar@ihug.co.nz to be part of the auction. The slave auction at Urge, 490 K' Road, will be held on Saturday 4 November, starting at 11pm. Later in November, the next special event will be Urge's 9th birthday party.      Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
