GMH testing new safe sex campaign

Thu 19 Oct 2006 In: New Zealand Daily News

Gay Men's Health is calling for participants in a focus group to be held in Auckland on Saturday November 4 to evaluate a major new safe sex campaign, which will be launched before the end of this year. The Auckland focus group is the final in a series of evaluations which have been held already in Christchurch and Wellington, and Gay Men's Health Team Co-ordinator Douglas Jenkin says testing major new campaigns in Auckland is especially important. “Looking at our own research and information from the Census, we now know that around 45% of gay men live in Auckland,” he says. “This is also where three-quarters of last year's new HIV infections occurred.” The focus group will be held at the new Gay Men's Health office in Ponsonby, and will involve informal discussions of the campaign's key messages and themes. Light refreshments will be provided. “It only takes a couple of hours, and it's a good opportunity to meet some new people and see our new community space,” Jenkin says. If you're interested in being part of the group, contact Health Promoter John Wrathall on (09) 300-6955 or email john.wrathall@nzaf.org.nz.     Ref: NZAF (m)
