Tickets are selling fast for Christchurch's Drag Oscars ceremony on Labour weekend Sunday 22 October, following television promotion on the South Island's CTV channel. Organiser Miss Mole tells GayNZ.com the local news media have been ‘all over' the Oscars this year. “The media here have been very supportive. The straight people have cottoned onto it. Tickets are selling so well with people here that I'm worried our gay friends who plan to attend with miss out on tickets, as it now looks to sell out.” Beginning at 8.30pm, the red carpet will be rolled out on Christchurch Central's Manchester Street. Miss Mole and Daphne Bush will welcome local celebrity guests, and Christchurch MP's Tim Barnett and Lianne Dalziel. Auckland's Miss Ribena and now-local Deb Stanaway will host the events on stage. “It's a big event for the South Island – our party of the year,” enthuses Mole. Each of the drag queens in the Oscars will have their own big production numbers on stage, with the Canterbury Cheerleaders and ‘hot heteroboys' joining them. Categories include ‘Miss NZ Dating' and ‘Miss Bitch Attitude'. Tickets are still on sale for $20 each at Christchurch's Chameleon Bar and Pandora's Costume Hire. Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
