AKL Church responds to Presbyterian vote

Sat 30 Sep 2006 In: New Zealand Daily News

Auckland's LGBT Community Church will respond to the Presbyterian Church General Assembly decision regarding gay, lesbian and unmarried people in ministry, with a special sermon tomorrow evening. Dr Peter Lineham, Associate Professor of History at Massey University, will deliver the sermon at the Evening Service of the Auckland Community Church, Sunday 1st October at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend. Lineham sermon reflects on what has happened in the Presbyterian Church this week: “they have limited the ministry of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in their denomination. You really have to wonder about the power they abrogate to themselves. For Jesus says that blocking the ministry of outsiders is a grave offense.” The Auckland Community Church is an undenominational church of gay, lesbian, transgendered, transsexual, bisexual and straight people who meet every Sunday night, at 7.30pm, in St Mathews-in-the City, on the corner Wellesley and Hobson Street. It has existed for 25 years.      Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
