Gay MP spoke at Brethren school

Fri 29 Sep 2006 In: New Zealand Daily News

National List MP, Chris Finlayson, has admitted he recently gave a speech to students at an Exclusive Brethren school in Wellington. National's Leader, Don Brash, this week said he wants nothing more to do with the church after learning some members hired a private detective to investigate senior Labour MPs. The fundamentalist sect is known for its right wing views and opposition to homosexuality. Chris Finlayson, who is openly gay, says he was asked by a parent at the Exclusive Brethren's Westmount School in Johnsonville to give a talk about being an MP and growing up in Wellington. Mr Finlayson says he did not discuss gay issues with the Exclusive Brethren students.       Ref: newswire.co.nz (m)
