Urge bar owners celebrate anniversary

Thu 21 Sep 2006 In: New Zealand Daily News

The owners of Auckland's longest-running gay bar Urge on K' Road, Paul Heard and Alan Granville, are celebrating their first anniversary in charge this Saturday with a massive party for all their regulars. It's been a busy year for the guys as they tried to fill the massive shoes left by original owner Larry Quickenden. “It's been a fantastic year, full of highs and we just want to show our thanks to everyone,” said Alan. “We can't believe a year has flown by since we took over.” Highlights of the year have included the Underware Parties, New Year's Eve and the inaugural Mr Urge Bear contest. “We can guarantee a great night on Saturday, full of our friends with a few prizes and surprises thrown in as well,” added Alan. Urge is now in its ninth year and shows no signs of slowing down with more big nights planned.
