Organisers of next February's HERO festival are keen to hear from GLBT groups who'd like their event to be included. HERO has expanded to three weeks and four weekends for 2007, to include more events than in previous years. Returning favourite events include Wigs on the Waterfront, the HERO Debate, the HEROic gardens, the Big Gay Out in Coyle Park, and the HERO Party. The many new events for 2007 include a film premiere, tennis tournament, and a dog show. Two new events will specifically cater to lesbians: a 'Flirt' night and Queer Female culture exhibition. An event in Manurewa's Bar 220 will broaden the festival to include South Auckland, and Brian Andrews' decade of LGBT scene photography will be showcased in an exhibition in Aotea Centre. HERO organisers are hoping a successful 2007 will bolster community and sponsorship confidence in the annual festival, leading to a return for the HERO parade in 2008. The HERO 2007 guide goes to the printers on 31 October. To ensure your LGBT community event is included, email info@hero.org.nz. Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
