About 450 gays and lesbians are expected to arrive in Queenstown from today, for the Southern Hemisphere's biggest LGBT alpine party, which will include a wide range of events from dance parties to drag shows and mountain picnics, wine tours, cabaret, and skiing. Established by Queenstown resident Mike Sanford in 2003, the event will be based at the Mercure Grand Hotel St Moritz. “Queenstown is perfect for this event,” say organisers. “The names Queenstown, Camp Street, Shotover Street, Man Street – all fabulous gay-friendly and collectively housing an internationally renowned gay-friendly destination with more than 100 bars and restaurants to enjoy.” Highlights include Sunday's Cadbury Pinky on the Peak Picnic at Coronet Peak, the Ski-Bum after-party at Bezu, a special New Zealand Idol-style karaoke night at Skycity Casino and the 42BELOW White Out featuring DJ Alan Thompson of Ministry of Sound at the Dux de Lux next Friday. The gay ski bus will transfer skiers and snowboarders from the Hotel St Moritz to the ski field of the day. Ref: GayNZ.com (d)
