Gay men's netball team set to compete

Tue 29 Aug 2006 In: New Zealand Daily News

An Auckland netball team comprised of gay men, is seeking to build a women's team, and is anticipating a hectic schedule of competition both home and in Australia, in the coming months. The Stormers Sports Club, located in Mt Eden, is seeking to expand its membership in the wake of its recent success, coming second in the 22-week Counties Men's Netball Association's competition. The team is set to compete in the New Zealand Men's National Netball Championship, to be held in Auckland from September 14-17, and they are currently seeking sponsorship to enable them to attend the Australian's men's nationals in Melbourne; the dates yet to be confirmed. "The purpose of our sports club is to create opportunities for all new and old members to take part in the sport," says coach Bijay Ratu, "either at a club level or a national level, which we are currently already doing." "We welcome anyone interested in learning the sport or just to come along to support. We hope to start both a women's team and a mixed team in the New Year." Ratu welcomes membership enquiries, and is seeking sponsorship for team uniforms and bags. For all enquiries, including a sponsorship proposal, contact Bijay Ratu on 027 300 6188.     Ref: GayNZ.com (d)
