HIV-positive people have just one week left to make submissions on the review of the Wellness Fund, which is administered by the New Zealand AIDS Foundation and provides grants for care and support within the HIV-positive community. The review started in June, after growing debate within the community over the Fund's purpose, eligibility criteria and it's fairness in distributing money. The final deadline for submissions is next Monday 28 August. “We've received a lot of submissions and feedback already since starting this review, but it's important that all HIV-positive people's voices are heard in this,” says Eamonn Smythe, NZAF National Positive Health Manager. “We're basically starting from scratch here and asking, if we were setting up the Wellness Fund today, what would it look like?” Smythe says the Fund was set up in the late 1980s “at a time when no treatments were available for HIV. With the advent of new medications and the increasing number of people with HIV, it's vital that we review all aspects of the Wellness Fund in light of needs in 2006.” Submissions can be made by email to eamonn.smythe@nzaf.org.nz or by post to: NZAF P O Box 6663 Wellesley Street Auckland 1141 Ref: GayNZ.com (d)
